A peridynamic model for crevice corrosion damage

A new peridynamic (PD) model for crevice corrosion damage is introduced and cross-validated with experimental results from the literature. Electrochemical mechanisms are reduced to a simple metal-ion concentration-dependent rate. Computations over domains extreme aspect ratios like those seen in crevices efficiently performed by modifying PD formulation accommodate arbitrary-shape horizons. The validated against on bolted washers. Simulations predict both location depth of deep trenches that form at distance mouth. Far-field boundary conditions used autonomously reproduce experimentally observed progression corrosion. also show two factors considered here (diffusion-driven transport dissolved metal ions, dissolution being dependent their concentration) sufficient evolution
